Ric Hassani, birth name Ikechukwu Eric Ahiauzu, was born in Port Harcourt Rivers state. He was formerly known as Rico Slim. He is signed to his own record label “riverland records”. Ric Hassani has been doing music full-time for a little more than a year now. Last year, he released two projects : a compilation album called African Tour Select Singles 2015 and an EP tagged Ric Hassani – The Acoustic EP.
His music, just like his sense of style, is as suave as could be. Ric Hassani no doubt is a sight for sore eyes. His 2015 critically acclaimed single, Gentleman, speaks of the worth of the African woman.
With smooth vocals, beautiful acoustic instrumental, Ric Hassani is steadily setting the foundation for an exceptional career. His style and choice of music, could only be matched by very few artistes in the country.
Ric Hassani subtly condemns domestic abuse against women in his song, Gentleman. Gentleman is the first single off Ric Hassani’s highly anticipated debut album, The African Gentleman.
He had his primary and secondary school in Port-Harcourt, Rivers state. He then proceeded to Covenant University for his undergrad, and then to England, the University of surrey for a Masters in Energy Economics.
Although his music is exceptional and beautiful, we cannot help but ask if Nigerians are truly mature enough to enjoy the aesthetics of his music. It has been witnessed in the past where artistes like Asa,Banky W and many alike, were rejected by the Nigerian audience not because they were not good enough, but simply because of what we Nigerians tag “see finish syndrome”. We earnestly hope that Ric Hassani will be able to break this long time jinx and with a host of other conscious musicians, revolutionize the Nigerian music industry.
