Winnie speaks - Dbanj Eja Nla, Rising from the ashes or drowning

Over the last few week, Koko master Dbanj has made the news, with reports on his UK tour which started on the 11th of November at Manchester and will end on the 13th of November, 2016 in London.

He was recently awarded the BEFFTA “entertainment icon of the year” at the British parliament on the 10th of November 2016.

While many would see this as a huge achievement for the “Koko master”, it made me wonder, what has he done to merit this award?

We must admit that the “Eja Nla” has had a relatively slow career since his breakup with former business partner Don Jazzy.

While Don Jazzy has moved on from the Mohits saga to create a legacy with his Supreme Mavin Dynasty, Koko Master has to a large extent disappointed his fans.

The breakup plus the fact that he is a wonderful entertainer should have been a stepping stone but in his case it became the start of his downward spiral.

In the year 2016, Dbanj dropped ”if no be God”, ”Emergency”, ”breaking news”, he was nominated for this year’s Headies awards for his song Emergency which by far was his most successful track this year.

His track ”breaking news” was by far an epic fail and by lots of audience accounts, an insult to the legacy of late legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti.

Much to his fans dismay, Dbanj seems to be losing his sparkle, his foray into other activities like politics seems to have affected his career negatively.

Although we see him making moves, we hope to see more results emerging from these ‘moves”. On behalf of all Dbjan fans, myself included, we hope to and in good time recover the Eja Nla who once won our hearts.
