It’s that time of the week again where we appreciate one special female artiste for her contribution to the music industry. We take a walk down memory lane and get to know more about the artiste and their careers. It’s woman crush Wednesday , and this week we are going to be looking at the Supreme Mavin Empire first lady, Tiwa savage.
Born Tiwatope Savage, she hails from Isale Eko in Lagos Island. She is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, actress and performer. She was married to her former manager Tunji Tbillz Balogun, the marriage ended in April 2016 after he accused his wife of infidelity and her mother of witchcraft.
Tiwa’s career goes as far back as her days in High school. She played the trombone, done backup vocals for George Michael at the age of 16, and other musicians such as Mary J. Blige, Chaka Khan, Blu Cantrell, Kelly Clarkson, Andrea Bocelli, amongst others. She has also performed on stage with American artistes Sting, 50 Cent, The Black Eyed Peas, Eminem, Robbie Williams, Destiny’s Child, and a host of others.
She graduated with a degree in Business administration from the University of Kent. Tiwa worked at the Royal Bank of Scotland before moving to Nigeria, where she established her own label imprint, 323 Entertainment, with her then-manager and husband Tunji ” TBillz” Balogun whom she got engaged to on 5 February 2013.
She joined Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records in 2012 after the label she co-owns teamed up with the executive producer. She was one of the lead artists on solar plexus, the record label’s first album.
Tiwas career has spanned over a lenghty period of time, in which she has won awards such as the MTV Africa Music Award, two Headies Awards, one Channel O Music Video Award, one Nigeria Music Video Award, and two City People Entertainment Awards, among others.
Lady Tiwa recently revealed that she is working with foreign producer Stargate. The multi talented diva is a dedicated mother of Jamil Balogun, her son from her marriage with former manager Tunji Tbillz Balogun.
